Trout are one of the most beloved species for anglers everywhere.  The different species of trout, ranging from rainbow and cutthroat to brook and brown, have vibrant colors and are some of the most beautiful species of fish on earth.  Trout live in hostile habitats.  Raging mountain rivers and high mountain lakes are common fisheries that are filled with trout.  Because they live in these environments, trout have become a very hearty fish.  They are most cautious and therefore more difficult to catch than other species.

Because trout pose a different kind of challenge when fishing than other types of fish, you will need to know the different trout fishing lures and baits that might help you to be successful on your next fishing trip.  There are many different lures and baits that have a proven track record when it comes to trout fishing.  The first category is live bait.  Minnows, worms, grasshoppers, and other insects and aquatic life that is natural in the given fishery should be used and can be very effective.

Fly fishermen utilize artificial hand tied flies to effectively lure trout out of their hiding places.  Flies can vary from dry flies that float on the surface of the water, to wet flies and streamers that are fished closer to the bottom where the trout will normally feed.  Flies and fly fishing is the most typical method and lure for catching trout in the mountains of the west.

Trout are predatory fish.  They are often hunting for large meals, such as minnows and smaller fish.  Use lures that will mimic these types of meals.  Spinners and spoons work well because they are shiny and have the shape and flash of swimming minnows.  Other lures that mimic baitfish work well for trout.  These are just a few trout fishing tips involving the different lures and baits that work well.
