In June 2011 Cap d’Agde hosted a fantastic four-day festival of music that included a program with 4 free live concerts. The concerts featured musicians from French-speaking countries located all over the world. We stayed in a great little Cap d’Agde bed and breakfast and had a great time.

France is not the only place where you can hear French spoken commonly. Many French colonies still exist throughout the world. Many of these territories are recognized as a French-owned land however each has its own unique tradition that is unique to its own. This is quite evident in their traditional music as well as many other traditions. Four regions influenced music for this year in 2011.

On Thursday, the West Indies took the spotlight featuring some of its best music. The Patrick Stone Trio gives vibrant energy and feelings of joy into their Carribean-style music, allowing listeners to enjoy the incredible musical flavor that Guadeloupe and Martinique offer. This was an excellent way to begin this four-day marathon.

Friday set the tone for the weekend and attendees were treated to some Creole music originating from French Reunion Island. The band named Zoreol presented their unique music and style which derived from original compositions and remixes of popular songs. This band definitely brought out some of the best in musical culture.

The weekend kicked off on the Saturday with music from French Polynesia. The spotlight of the day was a group called Folklore From Tahiti who made a hit among spectators. Listeners were able to also enjoy a dance of love as well as a fire show as singers, musicians, and dancers all came together for the event. Fans were spoiled during this day as they also had the opportunity to see a tribal dance called Haka which was performed by the All Blacks rugby team.

Lastly on Sunday we ended the awesome weekend with a taste of Creole music once more featuring some always-popular brass-instrument bands. Each night we tried out a different restaurant in Cap d’Agde and enjoyed everyone. A really great vacation.
